Lost something at Geneva Airport?

Three places to look — the airport Lost & Found office, the airline’s own lost-property desk, or the security checkpoint. Here’s the order, the locations and the phone numbers.

Step 1 — work out where you lost it

Three lost-property desks at GVA

Which desk to contact depends on where the item was left — on the aircraft, at security, or anywhere else in the terminal.

Step 2 — GVA Lost & Found office

Arrivals hall, Level 0

For anything found anywhere in the terminal — except items left on the aircraft (which stay with the airline).

The Lost & Found office holds items for 30 days. After 30 days, valuable items (electronics, jewellery, passports, wallets) go to the Geneva cantonal police lost-property service in the city centre (Rue de Chantepoulet 1) — phone +41 22 327 41 11. Low-value items (clothing, umbrellas, generic accessories) are donated to a Geneva charity after 30 days. Liquids and perishables are disposed of within 7 days.

Step 3 — airline contacts

Items left on the aircraft

If you left something in the seat pocket, overhead bin or toilet, the airline (not the airport) handles it. The aircraft cleaning crew passes found items to the airline’s lost-property contractor — typically within 24–48 hours.

Lost & Found at Geneva Airport — FAQ

Where is the Lost & Found office at Geneva Airport?

The GVA Lost & Found office is in the arrivals hall on Level 0, behind the baggage claim carousels, signposted “Objets trouvés / Lost & Found”. It is open 06:00–22:00 every day. Phone +41 22 717 78 02 during opening hours, or use the online form at gva.ch/lostandfound. For items left on the aircraft, contact your airline directly — they hold those, not the airport.

How do I report a lost item if I’ve already left the airport?

Use the online form at gva.ch/lostandfound — submit a description, the area where you think you lost the item, your contact details, and a photo if possible. The Lost & Found office checks new arrivals daily and responds within 48 hours on weekdays. For items left at security, call +41 22 717 71 11 and ask for the security lost-property desk. For items left on the aircraft, file the form on your airline’s website.

How long does Geneva Airport keep lost items?

30 days at the airport Lost & Found office. After 30 days, valuable items (electronics, passports, jewellery, wallets) are transferred to the Geneva cantonal police lost-property service in the city centre (Rue de Chantepoulet 1). Low-value items (clothing, umbrellas, generic accessories) are donated to charity. Perishable items are kept 7 days then disposed of. There is no fee to recover items from the airport — but couriered returns are at your cost.

What if my checked bag is missing at Geneva Airport?

This is NOT a Lost & Found case — it’s a delayed-bag case for your airline. Go to your airline’s baggage service desk in the arrivals hall (open during flight operations) and file a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) with your boarding pass and bag tag. The airline tracks the bag via WorldTracer and delivers it to your hotel or address within 24–72 hours, free of charge. Keep all receipts for emergency items you buy (toiletries, change of clothes) — most airlines reimburse up to CHF 50/day, more for business class.

Can the airport ship my lost item to me?

Yes, by post or courier — but you pay the shipping fee, billed to your credit card before dispatch. The Lost & Found office uses Swiss Post for within-Switzerland shipping (CHF 8–15) and DHL or UPS for international (CHF 25–80 depending on size and destination). For high-value items (passport, electronics), tracked + insured shipping is required. Allow 7–14 business days for international.
