Genève Aéroport has a Swiss sector and a French sector, reached by its own road access from France, and the two are not connected once you are landside. Europcar operates a counter in each. Picking up on the wrong side is not a short walk away — it is a different entrance to the airport.

Europcar opens at 07:00, half an hour later than Avis, Budget, Enterprise and Hertz. On a 07:30 departure that half hour is the whole question.

Swiss plates or French plates
The Swiss desk is the default and its cars carry Swiss plates, with the CHF 40 motorway vignette normally already on the windscreen. Crossing into France, Italy or Germany is covered by the Green Card issued with the rental. The French desk gives you French plates, which suits a trip that stays in France — Annecy, Chamonix, Lyon — and a drop-off there. Its hours are shorter on both counts, so check them against your flight rather than assuming the airport keeps one schedule.
