Buses, coaches & shuttles from Geneva Airport.
City buses and trams, hotel shuttles, and coaches to the ski resorts and French border towns — the budget ways out of GVA, what they cost, and where to catch them.
TPG buses & trams
Geneva’s public transport (TPG) runs straight from the airport into the city — and for arriving passengers it’s free for 80 minutes.
The bus stops are just outside arrivals. Arriving passengers should grab the free 80-minute Unireso ticket from the machine in baggage claim first — it covers every TPG bus and tram in zone 10. Beyond that window a single ticket is around CHF 3.00. For the city centre the train (7 min to Cornavin) is usually faster, but buses reach neighbourhoods the train doesn’t.
| Line | To | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Bus #5 | Cornavin via Place des Nations | ~22 min |
| Bus #10 | Rive / city centre & Old Town | ~28 min |
| Bus #23 | Carouge (south Geneva) | ~40 min |
| Bus #28 | Jardin Botanique / Hôpital | ~25 min |
| Tram #14 (via Cornavin) | Bernex / Meyrin | ~30–35 min |
| Night bus (Noctambus) | City, after the last train | varies |
Hotel shuttles & regional coaches
Hotel shuttles
Several airport-area hotels run free shuttles for guests — check with your hotel before you land and note the pick-up point outside arrivals. See hotels near the airport.
Regional & intercity coaches
FlixBus and BlaBlaCar Bus serve French and Swiss cities from the airport coach area — often the cheapest option to Lyon, Annecy or Grenoble. Book online in advance.
Ski-resort & airport shuttles
In winter, shared shuttles run from GVA to the Alps. They’re cheaper than a private transfer but slower — they wait to fill and drop multiple parties.
Chamonix & Mont-Blanc
Shared shuttles (Mountain Drop-Offs, Alpybus and others) run frequently in season. Budget option vs. a door-to-door transfer — see destinations & prices.
Verbier, Megève, Val d’Isère
Seasonal shared and private shuttles serve the big resorts. Shared is cheapest per seat; a private Mercedes is faster and door-to-door for groups.
Geneva Airport buses & coaches — FAQ
Is the bus from Geneva Airport free?
For arriving passengers, yes — within 80 minutes using the free Unireso ticket from the baggage hall, which covers every TPG bus and tram in Geneva’s zone 10. If you’re departing or travelling beyond the window, a single ticket is around CHF 3.00. The night bus is also covered by the free ticket.
Which bus goes from Geneva Airport to the city centre?
Bus #5 reaches Cornavin and the lakefront in about 22 minutes, and bus #10 serves Rive, the city centre and Old Town in about 28 minutes. Both leave from outside arrivals. For the main station the train (7 minutes) is usually quicker, but the buses reach areas the train doesn’t.
Is there a shuttle bus from Geneva Airport to the ski resorts?
Yes — in winter, shared shuttles run from GVA to Chamonix, Verbier, Megève, Val d’Isère and other resorts. They’re cheaper per person than a private transfer but slower, as they fill up and make multiple drop-offs. For groups, late arrivals or a faster door-to-door trip, a private Mercedes is often better value.
Where do the buses leave from at Geneva Airport?
City TPG buses and trams leave from the stops just outside the arrivals exit. Regional and intercity coaches (FlixBus, BlaBlaCar Bus) and resort shuttles use the dedicated coach area nearby — follow the signs from arrivals, and check your operator’s confirmation for the exact bay.
