The train station inside Geneva Airport.
Genève-Aéroport (GVA) has its own CFF/SBB railway station built into the terminal — Geneva city centre in 7 minutes, and direct trains across Switzerland. Here’s how the station works, what’s free, and where the rails reach.
Right under the terminal
Genève-Aéroport station sits directly below the arrivals level — a covered indoor walk of about 5–7 minutes from the baggage hall, with escalators and lifts the whole way. No bus, no shuttle, no weather.
Follow the white-on-blue “Train / CFF” signs from baggage claim: you stay inside the building the entire way down to the platforms. The station is a full CFF/SBB station — not a tram stop — so it has staffed ticket counters, ticket machines, an SBB travel centre, toilets, and a small shop. Trains leave for Geneva’s main station (Cornavin) every few minutes and take just 7 minutes; from Cornavin you connect to the entire Swiss and European network.
Because the station is the first stop on the line, you almost always get a seat with luggage space before the train fills at Cornavin. Departures run roughly 05:00 to 00:30; outside those hours, bus and night services or a pre-booked transfer take over.
Léman Express + CFF mainline
The same platforms serve regional cross-border trains and fast national InterCity trains — so you can reach a French border town or Zürich from the same spot.
Léman Express (regional)
The cross-border RER network linking Geneva, Coppet, Annemasse and the French Haute-Savoie. Frequent, ideal for the canton and the immediate French border. Within zone 10 it’s covered by your free arrivals ticket.
CFF / SBB mainline
Fast InterCity (IC) and InterRegio (IR) trains to Lausanne, Montreux, Bern, Zürich, Sion and beyond — many of them direct from the airport without changing at Cornavin.

Free for arrivals, simple for the rest
Two situations cover almost everyone landing at GVA.
Just arrived? It’s free to the city
Every arriving passenger gets a free 80-minute Unireso ticket from the machine in baggage claim — it covers the train to Cornavin and all of Geneva’s zone 10. Full guide →
Going further? Buy a CFF ticket
For Lausanne, Bern, Zürich, the Valais or anywhere past zone 10, buy at the station machines, the SBB counter, or the SBB Mobile app. A Swiss Travel Pass or Half-Fare Card also works.
Six things that save you time
No seat reservation needed
Swiss domestic trains are turn-up-and-go. Every train has luggage racks at the carriage ends and overhead shelves — no fee, no booking.
First & last trains
Trains run roughly 05:00–00:30. The first departures get you to Cornavin in time for early TGV and IC connections; after 00:30 use a night bus or a transfer.
Send your bags ahead
SBB’s door-to-door luggage service can collect or deliver suitcases so you travel hands-free — useful for ski trips. Arrange in advance on sbb.ch.
Snow trains to the Valais
In winter, direct trains reach Sion, Visp and Brig — the gateways to Verbier, Zermatt, Crans-Montana and Saas-Fee. Combine with a regional bus or funicular.
Resorts off the rail line
Chamonix, Megève and Courchevel aren’t on the Swiss rail network. For those, a road transfer or shuttle is faster — see transfer destinations & prices.
Which terminal?
The station serves the whole airport (T1 and the T2 charter wing). Allow a little extra walking time if you depart from the far end of T1.
Geneva Airport train — FAQ
Is there a train station at Geneva Airport?
Yes. Genève-Aéroport (GVA) is a full CFF/SBB railway station built into the terminal, directly below the arrivals level — about a 5–7 minute covered indoor walk from baggage claim, with escalators and lifts. It has ticket counters, machines and an SBB travel centre. Trains run to Geneva Cornavin in 7 minutes and onward across Switzerland.
How long is the train from Geneva Airport to the city centre?
About 7 minutes to Geneva Cornavin, the main station, with trains every few minutes during the day. Cornavin sits in the heart of the city; from there trams and buses reach the lake, the Old Town and Plainpalais within minutes. For arriving passengers the ride is free with the 80-minute Unireso ticket from the baggage hall.
Is the train from Geneva Airport free?
For arriving passengers, yes — within Geneva’s zone 10 (which includes Cornavin) using the free 80-minute Unireso ticket you collect in baggage claim. For journeys beyond zone 10 — Lausanne, Montreux, Bern, Zürich, the Valais — you buy a normal CFF ticket at the station, on the SBB app, or at the counter.
Can I take a direct train from Geneva Airport to Lausanne or Zürich?
Yes — many InterCity and InterRegio trains leave directly from the airport platform without changing at Cornavin. Lausanne is about 49 minutes direct, Bern about 2 hours, Montreux about 1 h 14, and Zürich roughly 2 h 45–3 h depending on the train. Check live times on sbb.ch before you travel.
When do the first and last trains run at Geneva Airport?
Trains run roughly from 05:00 until about 00:30. If you land after the last train, take a night bus, a metered taxi (around CHF 45 to the city), or a pre-booked Mercedes transfer (fixed fare, driver waits in arrivals). For ski resorts and French destinations off the rail network, a road transfer is usually faster.
