Geneva Airport to Paris — the long road west.

Paris is 510 km from Geneva Airport, and the honest position is that almost nobody should be driven there. The TGV covers the same ground in a fraction of the time. A road transfer exists for the cases the railway cannot serve — heavy equipment, an unusual hour, a group with a fixed schedule. It is 510 km from Geneva Airport, about 5 h 40 by road on the A6. Here is every option compared, with real journey times and what each is best for.

Driving yourself

Car rental & the road

A6 does most of the work.

The route leaves the airport on the A1 then the A39 then the A36 then the A6 and covers 510 km in about 5 h 40 when the road is clear. The route runs north-west across the Jura and through Burgundy on the A39 and A6 — motorway throughout, and busy on the approach to Paris.

Swiss motorways require a motorway vignette. Most cars hired on the Swiss side of Geneva Airport already carry one, but the airport also has a French sector — check at the rental desk rather than assuming.
