Geneva Airport to La Thuile — quiet skiing on the Italian border.

La Thuile sits below the Petit-Saint-Bernard pass in the Aosta valley, linked across the frontier with La Rosière in France. It is one of the least crowded ski areas within two hours of Geneva, and it is reached through the Mont Blanc tunnel. It is 131 km from Geneva Airport, about 1 h 50 by road on the A40. Here is every option compared, with real journey times and what each is best for.

Car rental & the road

A40 does most of the work.

The route leaves the airport on the A1 then the A41 then the A40 and covers 131 km in about 1 h 50 when the road is clear. Through the Mont Blanc tunnel to Courmayeur, then down the valley and up again to La Thuile — the last climb is the only mountain section.

Swiss motorways require a motorway vignette. Most cars hired on the Swiss side of Geneva Airport already carry one, but the airport also has a French sector — check at the rental desk rather than assuming.
